The Miami‑Dade Immunization Coalition is a community partnership dedicated
to strengthening vaccination efforts across Miami‑Dade County in support of the Miami‑Dade Health Department.

Relaunched in April 2019, the Coalition is organized by FIDEC in collaboration with public health authorities and infectious disease specialists.

Why a Coalition in Miami-Dade? 

Miami‑Dade County is Florida’s most important demographic, economic, and cultural hub, with more than 2.9 million residents.

 

Key points:

  • Demographics: It is the most populous county in Florida and the 7th largest in the United States.
  • Infrastructure: With more than 2,400 square miles, it is larger than states such as Rhode Island or Delaware.

  • Diversity:  One of the most diverse counties in the nation, with 70.3% Hispanic/Latino residents and large Haitian, Afro-Caribbean, and Latin American communities. More than 54% of residents are foreign-born, shaping unique cultural and public health needs.

  • Global Gateway: Miami-Dade’s airports and seaports serve as major international entry points, bringing travelers from around the world. This increases exposure to emerging and reemerging infectious diseases and highlights the importance of a strong local coalition focused on prevention, education, and rapid response.
